We all just wanna have fun!

Being in front of a camera can be uncomfortable, even if you’ve asked for it! Remind yourself that we are here to have fun. My goal is to capture your personality, so I want your images to look as natural as possible. While I might give you direction on posture or where to place your hands, I want it to look like I snapped photos of you in your normal, daily activities.

If you have a favorite pastime or personality trait you want to highlight, let’s get it on camera! If you want to get creative with posing or props, we can do that too.

Let’s have fun!

And laughing is a must. I have only three rules for photo shoots: have fun, have fun and have fun!

If you’d like an idea of what to do once you’re standing in front of the camera, here are some tips to help you look your best:

  • Stick out your chin slightly. People tend to tuck their chin when they’re nervous or trying to stand up straight.
  • Stand up straight. Yeah, I know. But it helps if you think of reaching the top of your head to the sky.
  • Keep your arms away from your body. This gives them definition and prevents your torso from looking wider than it is.
  • Bend, but don’t snap! (Legally Blonde fans will get this one). You generally want your joints to be slightly bent, as it looks softer and more natural. Avoid standing rigid with locked knees and elbows, unless there’s a certain look you’re going for.
  • Turn slightly away from the camera. This gives a slenderizing effect and shows the more natural curvature of the body.
  • Smile! There’s no need to say “cheese” and force a smile, but we do want to look happy in our family pictures (right?). The best way to get a natural smile is to laugh. Let me know if you need me to tell a joke. Knock, knock …

These are just some suggestions to help you feel prepared for and comfortable with getting in front of the camera. If you have any tricks that work for you, be sure to bring them up when we get together for your photo session!

What Should I Wear?

DSC_2470Whatever you want … with some caveats! Make sure your outfit makes you feel good about yourself, but it shouldn’t be loose, baggy clothing. If we’re taking family or couple photos, consider coordinating your outfits. That doesn’t mean you all have to wear jeans and the same sweater. In fact, you each want to wear something that represents your personal style. We want you to look like you!

Select a color palette that is flattering to everyone being photographed, and then choose an outfit for each person within that palette. If you have an outfit in mind, start with that and work the others into the mix. Remember that bold colors help an image to really pop.

Need some inspiration? Try Pinterest or ask a friend for advice (girls’ night with a bottle of wine? Yes, please!). And you can alwaysDSC_3098-4 email or text me an image of what you have in mind to get some feedback. Also, while we can do one wardrobe change if you’d like to, remember that this will take time and can be tedious for young children. Consider changing out just a shirt or bringing some accessories (scarves, hats, different shoes, jewelry, etc.) to switch it up without eating up too much time or energy.

You’re Booked. Now What?

DSC_2352I’m so excited you’ve selected BeYOUtiful Photos to capture your love, laughter and memories. So, now what happens?

First, I’ll email you a short questionnaire to find out more about you (and anyone else being photographed). I want to make sure we get your child’s favorite red boots, that silly family game you like to play, or the special way you and your significant other say “I love you.”

Once we’ve picked a date and time, your $50 deposit will lock in your slot. The remainder of the session fee will be due at the time of the shoot. Please note that if you need to cancel, you must give me 24 hours notice in order to get your $50 deposit back.

After your shoot, please give me two weeks to go through the editing process to make sure your images are looking their best! Images are sold DSC_3164_2_smallseparately, and you will be able to make your selections during an in-home slideshow viewing (I come to you!). For more information on pricing, click here.

Why Me?

Why should you choose BeYOUtiful Photos? I know there are so many photographers out there today. And, now more than ever, it’s easier for anyone to pick up a camera and take decent shots. But not everyone will pour their time, heart and soul into giving you unique, natural images that represent your personality and most important relationships.

This is my passion. My business grew from my hobby. I started taking (many, many) photos of my daughter (2 at the time). I’ve tried photographing nature and architecture, and while I sometimes get an image I like, it cannot compare to capturing the emotion and human connection that I find in images of people. That is what I want to do for you. My goal is to give you as many candid, real images as possible of you and your loved ones. Many people might not like the idea of spending hours on post-processing in Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop, but I love it. I want to create emotional images that melt your heart and put a smile on your face. I actually have a hard time peeling myself away from the computer! That is how you know you’ll get a collection of memories that you will love forever.

Like I said, there are plenty of photographers out there, and you don’t have to choose me. If you do want to work with me, it will be becauseModelsLexCem_0190 you love my style of photography, and my dedication to you and giving you a product that you will love: BeYOUtiful Photos that reflect love, joy, fun and more.
